Old King Cole was a merry old soul,
And a merry old soul was he;
Something needs to be done! yelled the king.
Bring me the royal consultant!
“Yes, your excellence”, said the royal servant.
In came Merlin, the BPM wizard. An old and wise consultant.
“Merlin, am I the king of this kingdom?” asked the king
“Yes, your excellence”, said the royal consultant.
“Am I a good king or a bad king?”, asked the king
“An excellent king, your excellence”, said the royal consultant.
“So please explain why after all the change management programme we put together, I still feel that things are not running as smoothly as they should be.”
“Ah, your excellence”, said the royal consultant, “that is an excellent problem and one that is simple to solve”
“What your excellence needs, and may I add, and excellent excellence – is a centre of excellence”.
“A what!?” shouted the king.
“A centre of excellence, your excellence” replied the royal consultant.
“It’s an internal group that provides consulting services and oversees the BPM efforts within an organization
“The CoE helps standardize tools, procedures, and best practices, enabling companies to leverage their experiences across projects to achieve scalable (spanning the enterprise) results and reduce the cost of their BPM efforts. It’s also known as BPM Centre of Competency”
“Who should be members of this Centre of Excellence” asked the king
“All the court’s stakeholders, your excellence” replied the royal consultant.
The Chancellor, the Cup-bearer, the Standard Bearer, the Grand Master of the Process,
the Bedchamber Maid, the Court Constable, the Gentleman Usher, and of course, the Court Jester
Does it work? quested the king.
Like a charm! replied the royal consultant. It keeps them busy from daybreak till nightfall. They sit around bickering over this procedure or that procedure.
Do they come up with good ideas? asked the king.
Oh no!, replied the royal consultant. It just keeps them busy.
That way they do the least damage to the kingdom….
What a fantastic idea! said the king
Old King Cole was a merry old soul
And a merry old soul was he;
He called for his wife, and he called for his lords
And he called for his BPM consultants three.
Every consultant he had an initiative,
And a very fine initiative had he;
but there’s none so rare, as can compare
With King Cole and his CoE
Right, I’m off to do a re-write of Yes Minister set in the process world.
(Nice one, Adam!)
