From time to time I like to peak at Google Trends, to see if I can spot a new trend.
Although we take it for granted, Google Trends is a tremendous BI analytic tool.
It pays no attention to what the industry analysts say, it pays no attention to what the marketing gurus say. All it does is to show you what words people use when looking for information in Google.
So what have I learnt?
The trend that caught me by surprise was comparing Case Management and Business Process Management. It seems that Case Management, although not a new trend, is searched for far more than Business Process Management.
Here is some of the other findings:
- Process is stronger than Workflow
- Process Management and Business Management are the same
- Business Process Management is stronger than Enterprise Content Management
- Business Process Management, Enterprise Architecture, Customer Relationship Management have the same level of interest
Business Process Management vs Case Management
Process Management vs Business Process
Process vs Workflow
Business Process Management vs Enterprise Architecture
Business Process Management vs Enterprise Content Management
Business Process Management vs Customer Relationship Management
Six Sigma is slowly disappearing…
Six Sigma
And just for comparison, here is the previous BPM Google Trends that I ran at the start of the year.
Hi Adam, interesting statistics. But what does it tell us … REALLY? What decisions does it improve?

Hi Max,
I’m surprised at you…
The web is full of marketing promises, analysis trends by people with an agenda, the next big thing hype cycles, etc…
Google Trends is the one place where you can see unbiased statistics of what customers are actually looking for.
I don’t know if it improves decisions, but I learnt that Case Management is searched more than Business Process Management.
Cheers,
Adam
